Onanoceanvoyage,alibrarianfallsforamarriedman.AfterlibrarianLuluSmithisaccusedbyherpatronsofhavingSpringfever,shespendsherlifesavingsonacruisetoHavana,duringwhichshebeginsaromancewithBobGrover,alawyerwithpoliticalambitions.Aftertheirreturn,Lulubecomesaclericalassistantforanewspaper,wheresheispursuedbybrashreporterAlHolland.Onenight,severalmonthsintotheiraffair,BobcomestoLulusapartmentfordinner,bringingtwoHalloweenmaskswithwhichtheyhaveamarveloustimeplaying.TheirmerrimentisinterruptedbyacallfromAl,whoseproposaltoLulupromptsBobtoconfessthathehasaninvalidwifewhomhecannotleave.Luluproteststhatshewishestocontinuetheiraffair,butBobrefusestoletherwasteherlifeonhim.Theysquabble,andLuluthrowshimoutwithouttellinghimsheispregnant.TimepassesandBobbecomesdistrictattorney,whileAlbecomescityeditorofthenewspaper.AfterBobhiresadetective,Marty,tofindLulu,thecouplearereunitedandLuluintroducesBobtohisdaughterRoberta.Later,LuluandRobertaarewaitingtomeetBob,whenAlsuddenlyappears.HeisquestioningheraboutRobertawhenBobarrives,and,inordertoprotectBobsreputation,LulutellsAlthatthebabyisBobsadopteddaughterandthatsheishergoverness.Inordertopreservethecharade,BobdoesadoptRoberta,takingherhomethenextdaytopresenttohiswifeHelen,whoisreturningfromaEuropeanrestcure.HelenisdelightedwiththechildbutquestionsLulusabilitytocareforher.Lulurunsoutofthehouse,andwhenBobfollowsher,shetriestotellhimsheisthroughwithhimbutcannot.Soonafter,LulugoestoAlforajobandbecomestheadvicetothelovelorncolumnistforhispaper.AlpumpsherforinformationaboutBobandRobertainordertowriteastorycausingBobsdownfall,butLulurefusestosayanything.Astheyearspass,Lulustillworksforthepaper,andAl,nowthemanagingeditor,isstillpursuingher.Bobhasbeenbothamayorandacongressman,butonthenighthewinsthenominationforgovernor,hebecomesdisheartened,ashamedofthehypocrisyofhisdoublelife.Lulutriestotalkhimoutofconfessingthetruthandruininghiscareer,butwhenitseemsthatshecannotsucceed,sheasksAltomarryher,hopingthatwillmakeBobforgetabouther.OnthenightofBobselection,however,Altellsherthatheknowsallabouther,BobandRoberta,andLulukillshimtopreventhimfrompublishingthestory.Ayearlater,Bobisonhisdeathbed,andLulu,whomhehadpardonedafterashortjailterm,comestovisithim.Heshowsherhisnewwill,whichtellsthetruthandleavesherhalfofhisestate,butafterhedies,shetearsituptoprotecthimandRoberta,whoisengagedtoasociallyprominentyoungman.如果您喜歡茶杯狐 cupfox（m.masmodo.com）分享的《禁忌1932》，別忘了推薦給你的好友！
